Programmed Brick Architecture – Graduation Project 2022

Programmed Brick Architecture – Graduation Project 2022

The IDEA : What’s old is new again

This incorporative graduation project aims at tackling architecture via the technology and digitalization realm, where specific disciplines are crucial actors in this approach. This project introduces a design problem that many parameters should be studied and intermingled together to achieve being within this realm. Architecture, mechatronics, material, and structure will work together to realize Programmed Brick Architecture via creating Giza Culture Village where cultural heritage, technology mind will connect for keeping “identity evolution”.

In this project, you should pursue the parametric design approach which is defined as “the idea that all design elements are interdependent and adaptable The goal of the project is to turn this idea to the real life by applying algorithmic repetition techniques on the brick architecture buildings by using an easy, fast, accurate and cheap construction method On the other hand, architecture is quickly adopting the technology of robots, they are programmable, mechanical, and automated instruments that assist in processes of digital fabrication Accordingly, the challenge is to design a parametric brick building to be fabricated by industrial swarm robots Unlike a mason, the robots could position each individual brick in a different way without optical reference or measurement which gives the architect the ability to create unexpected forms using the ordinary normal bricks

Project description

The project location is in New Giza where you relate to many heritage spots, East, West, North and South while having a great buffer that give freedom to merge old and new. The project will be on an area of (20 Feddan – 30% land Coverage). The project may act as a journey to show visitors how all human values are reflected and configured via technology. The core problem is rethinking brick as both a material and a structural unit that could act as aesthetically and eco-friendly skin or as a bearing wall structure type
