GENUIS LOCI – VR Alcove workshop and competition 2022

De-LAB is inviting you to help shaping the first VR Alcove in our faculty campus by designing and fabricating a unique VR workstation that is easily fabricated using cardboard and meet the needs of different users.

•Participants are required to design and fabricate a VR workstation (VR Alcove) that can be build using cardboard and laser-cutting.

•The VR Alcove should meet the needs of different VR users (Architects, Designers, Painters, Sculptors, etc…) in their work. Also considering the basic needs for VR 6-DoF users.

•The clear Volume of the VR Alcove  should be ( 2m x 2m x 2m )

•The activities in the VR Alcove  Could be performed when standing or seating depends on the characteristics if the activity.

•Applicants will have a session to use a 6-DoF VR headset to experience the needs and determine the approach for their design.

Objectives

• Supporting students’ activities and training opportunities.
• Enhancing sense of belonging
• Boosting teamwork skills
• Applying academia in the field

Limitations

• Each group consists of maximum 10 students. ·

• This is a 4-week training opportunity, but for groups that completed the workshop successfully, it will be pack together as 6-week training

 Workshop Contents

•Introduction to Parametric modeling and algorithmic design.

•Using different 3D Modeling techniques of Rhinoceros3d:

Drawings with dimensions-Drawing of curves-Lofting Techniques-Contouring-Extracting images.

Drawings with dimensions-Drawing of curves-Different surface creation techniques-Creating Blocks-Extracting images

Divide Curves-Interpolate-Loft & pipe

•Using different 3D Modeling techniques of Grasshopper Plugin:

Transformation tools (move, Rotate & Scale)-Generate list of numbers using series & Range.

Surface-Divide Surface-Panelling

Attractor point -Remapping Numbers-Parametric pattern

Construct surface-panelling-Parametric pattern

Drawings with dimensions- construct surface-panelling- movable façade- Vectors & 3D Rotation

•Knowledge and understanding of Fabrication using Autodesk Fusion Software
